One woman was killed and at least 29 others were injured when a white van ramming a crowd during the Berlin Pride event crashed into a tree. The suspect, 21‑year‑old Abdul Ballout, was shot and killed by police. German officials have called the assault a «heinous Islamist terror attack».
What Happened?
The incident took place at about 10:00 pm local time on Saturday night in Tiergarten park, near the Brandenburg Gate. A vehicle drove through a large crowd, striking people, and a knife was used in several stabbings. The event was abruptly cancelled and the crowd was directed to evacuate.
The Suspect
Ballout was identified by police as a German national of Lebanese background who had been radicalised. He was previously convicted for assault, robbery and incitement. In July 2025 he was arrested in Lebanon for inciting religious conflict and later returned to Germany where the charges grew to «preparing serious violence».
