Russia launched more than 700 drones and missiles at Ukraine in multiple waves overnight, killing at least 18 people in what local officials said was the deadliest attack in months.

Officials confirmed that nine were killed in the southern port city of Odesa, five in the central city of Dnipro, and four, including a child, in the capital, Kyiv.

In Russia, two individuals, including a child, were reported dead in a Ukrainian drone attack in the southern Krasnodar region.

This assault follows a brief ceasefire over Orthodox Easter, with both sides accusing each other of numerous violations.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, alarm sirens in Kyiv broke the early morning calm as explosions followed shortly after.

Images from eyewitnesses captured the devastation, showing bright orange fires and black smoke filling the city. Videos included dramatic footage of drones crashing into residential buildings.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the death of a 12-year-old boy among the casualties and stated that at least 45 individuals were injured. Rescue operations have unearthed survivors from the wreckage of a collapsed residential building.

The Dnipro region reported four deaths and numerous injuries, while an attack in Kharkiv resulted in injuries to two elderly residents.

Red warnings about missile strikes left cities like Mykolaiv and Kherson without power.

Reports indicated that Ukraine's air defenses successfully intercepted a high portion of the incoming threats, but immediate casualties occurred in various locations.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, emphasizing the necessity for continued sanctions against Russia. He stated, 'Russia is betting on war,' highlighting the focus on preserving Ukrainian lives and insisting on peace.

Ukrainian officials, including Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, described the strike as a 'war crime' and called for bolstered international support.

The siege in Ukraine now enters its fifth year, amid stalled peace talks largely due to shifting global conflicts.
