In brief

Wisconsin authorities have successfully filed for the revocation of Morgan Geyser's conditional release following her escape from a group home. Geyser, who gained notoriety for her involvement in the 2014 stabbing of a classmate as part of a delusional belief linked to the Slender Man, was caught only a day after fleeing. A hearing is scheduled for December 22 to discuss her case, which could result in her return to a mental institution.

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin authorities have asked a state court to revoke the conditional release of Morgan Geyser, the woman who nearly killed her sixth-grade classmate in 2014 under the influence of the horror character Slender Man, following her escape from a group home last week.On Wednesday, a Waukesha County Circuit Court judge agreed to seal the petition filed by the Department of Corrections late Tuesday seeking to revoke Geyser’s conditional release. Earlier this year, a judge had permitted her release from a state mental institution to reside at a group home.Geyser cut off her GPS monitoring bracelet and fled the group home in Madison, Wisconsin, with a companion, leading to her capture outside of Chicago the next evening, approximately 170 miles away. During her court appearance in Chicago, she did not oppose extraditionNow back in Wisconsin, Geyser is being held in the Waukesha County jail awaiting a motion hearing set for December 22.If her release is revoked, it could lead to her being returned to the mental institution where she has spent much of the past eight years, and she could potentially face additional charges in connection with her escape. The companion who assisted in her escape has already been charged with trespassing and obstruction, but remains unnamed as they have not been charged with helping Geyser specifically. They expressed that Geyser fled out of fear her group home would no longer allow them to see each other after becoming friends at church.Geyser, along with her classmate Anissa Weier, previously lured their fellow student Payton Leutner to a park where Geyser stabbed her multiple times in an act they claimed was intended to impress Slender Man. Leutner survived the attack, making a miraculous recovery. While Geyser's conditional release seemed to be a path to rehabilitation after spending years in a mental institution, questions around her mental state have arisen after state health officials sought to overturn the release on grounds of disturbing communications and behavior. The judge ultimately allowed her release in September, but events have taken a turn with this recent incident.
