LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police are investigating the shocking deaths of renowned director-actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, who were found dead at their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Law enforcement officials suspect the couple suffered stab wounds, while family members are being questioned as potential witnesses.
Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton stated that no suspects have been identified yet. We are going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation, he said during a press briefing.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid request around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, discovering the bodies of the 78-year-old director and his 68-year-old wife at the scene. Reiner had celebrated his birthday earlier in March this year.
Although identities have not been officially confirmed by the authorities, the community mourns a beloved figure known for films like “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” and “When Harry Met Sally.” Reiner's iconic role in the television series “All in the Family” established him as a major talent, winning him two Emmy Awards and solidifying his presence in American pop culture.
Reiner, son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, was married to Michele Singer Reiner since 1989, after meeting while directing “When Harry Met Sally.” They shared three children together. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her condolences, highlighting Reiner's immense contributions to American culture and his advocacy for social justice.
As the investigation proceeds, the Brentwood neighborhood remains under heightened scrutiny, after previous notable violent incidents, underscoring the community's typical safety.
