In brief
The Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the last medical facilities still operational in northern Gaza, is in dire need of aid after suffering extensive damage from Israeli shelling. According to Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the hospital's director, their intensive care unit—which was the only one serving both children and adults in the area—was struck by a tank shell, igniting a fire and causing significant destruction.
Dr. Abu Safiya emphasized the urgent need for repairs to critical resources such as water and oxygen supplies, stating, “We appeal to the international community to open a humanitarian corridor and allow the entry of medical supplies.” The hospital has endured ongoing attacks in the backdrop of an Israeli military operation against Hamas, with military sources denying any strikes targeting the facility. Amid fears for patient safety, medical staff have been working tirelessly, often under oppressive conditions, to manage an overwhelming influx of casualties. In a heartfelt appeal, Dr. Abu Safiya lamented, “We have been addressing the world for over 75 days, and yet nothing is being done," highlighting the urgency of their situation as they seek international support to ensure the delivery of vital medical care in these harrowing times.
