In brief

In a dramatic turn of events, Lovisa Sjoberg, a 48-year-old photographer, was discovered by emergency services in Australia's Snowy Mountains after being missing for six days. Reporting a suspected snake bite, dehydration, and a rolled ankle, Sjoberg was found "dazed and injured" on the Nungar Creek Trail by a National Parks and Wildlife Service officer on Sunday afternoon. Having ventured into the remote Kosciuszko National Park to photograph wild horses, her disappearance raised alarms when her rental car was found abandoned, leading to a massive search operation coordinated by New South Wales (NSW) Police.

The search, which began on October 21, featured sniffer dogs, firefighters, park rangers, and even a helicopter equipped with infrared technology. Concerns for Sjoberg escalated as rescue teams faced challenges in locating her amidst harsh conditions, including freezing nighttime temperatures. After being treated on-site, she was transported to a hospital where her condition stabilized. According to Supt Toby Lindsay, Sjoberg suffered a snake bite from a copperhead snake but is fortunate to have survived the ordeal, feeling "happy to be alive."
