Japan’s Defense Ministry said on 29 October that North Korea fired a missile that may be ballistic and has already fallen, Kyodo News reported.

South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that around a dozen short‑range ballistic missiles were launched from the Wonsan area toward the East Sea the same day, Yonhap News noted, adding that the missiles were detected by airborne early‑warning radar and tracked by U.S. and South Korean forces.

The South Korean Presidential Office convened an emergency meeting following the launch, Kim Seung‑yeon and Kim Hyun‑soo of the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, according to Yonhap. President Yoon Suk‑yeol emphasized a swift response and the review of defense readiness plans.

Japan’s Coast Guard urged ships to monitor further information and avoid approaching any fallen objects, Kyodo News reported.

Earlier, North Korea had fired multiple ballistic missiles from the Pyongyang area on 12 October, a move seen as a response to South Korea’s recent hypersonic missile test, Yonhap added.
