White foam material has been spotted on Nigeria’s Abuja‑Kaduna expressway. Hundreds of motorists have stopped to take photos as the mysterious substance bloomed along the highway, sparking concern and speculation.
Nesrea, Nigeria’s environmental enforcement agency, has warned people to keep their distance from the foam, soil and nearby water until lab tests are complete. The agency sent a team from the Kaduna State Field Office to the site, collecting samples of the foam and surrounding environmental media.
Preliminary findings point to a spill after a lorry accident, though the lorry’s cargo remains uncertain. The investigation is ongoing, with officials urged to determine whether the foam contains hazardous chemicals.
Motorists, such as driver Isah Aminu, reported being told that “clouds fell from the sky” but later realized the foam resembled snow. Some were drawn to the novelty of the scene, while others expressed fear of contamination.
Until Nesrea releases its full findings, it remains wise for the public to avoid direct contact with the foam and stay out of the affected stretch of the expressway.
