DHAKA – Bangladesh recorded its highest monthly dengue death toll of 2026 in October, with 418 deaths and more than 133,000 hospital admissions reported as of October 30, according to health ministry data cited by WAM.
Experts warn that the outbreak is unlikely to ease significantly before December, adding a persistent threat to an already stretched healthcare system.
October alone accounted for 173 deaths, surpassing September’s 148 and making it the deadliest month of 2026 so far.
The surge comes as Bangladesh also battles the world's worst measles outbreak, which has killed more than 1,200 people, further straining medical resources.
Property authorities and health officials are ramping up mosquito control measures and public awareness campaigns, though the latest figures suggest that containment remains a challenge.
