In brief

On Saturday, Binance disclosed a security incident that has led to a $3 billion on‑chain freeze and temporary withdrawal suspension. The exchange has earmarked more than $6.34 billion in reserves to cover any losses. Binance is collaborating with law‑enforcement and blockchain partners to recover the lost assets.

On Saturday, cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced it was managing a security incident that has prompted it to freeze roughly $3 billion in on‑chain assets and temporarily halt withdrawals.

In a statement, Binance said it has set aside more than $6.34 billion in company reserves, including its Secure Asset Fund for Users, to protect customer balances.

Binance alerted users that it had already set aside a reserve of more than $6.34 billion, noting that $5 billion of that reserve is held in the exact impacted token assets.

Binance said it will cover the impact of the incident, not the users.

Your funds are safe; Binance is covering the impact of this incident, not you.

Earlier this morning, the Metro Nebraska outlet reported that Binance is investigating reports of a potential security incident, though the statement was not yet confirmed by the exchange.

Another source, The Alabama News Wire, noted that Binance temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while it conducts security checks and freezes funds.

Binance said it is working with law‑enforcement authorities, token issuers, blockchain intelligence firms and industry partners to track and recover the affected assets. It has frozen $3 billion in funds on‑chain through cooperation with blockchain partners.

An initial investigation found no evidence of wallet private key leaks, and Binance said its general trading activity and customer deposits remain unaffected.

Binance will provide updates on the restoration of withdrawal services, release a comprehensive technical post‑mortem report once the investigation concludes, and publish an updated proof‑of‑reserves report to verify user balances.
