Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Monday it had foiled a series of attacks allegedly planned by Ukrainian special services, in which improvised explosive devices were hidden in first‑person view goggles posed as humanitarian aid for Russian soldiers.
A Russian serviceman in the Volgograd region consulted the agency after receiving two pairs of goggles from a volunteer; an inspection found the devices had been placed in place of the cooling fans and would detonate when the goggles were switched on.
The FSB added that security agencies in several regions had seized similar devices from postal services and that a criminal case has been opened.
