Three people were hospitalized after a stabbing near a primary school in Dandenong, about 29 km southeast of Melbourne’s central business district, on Friday morning, police officials said.
Emergency services responded at around 11:30 a.m. and located a 28‑year‑old woman with life‑threatening injuries, a 26‑year‑old man and a 35‑year‑old man who were taken to hospital with serious but not life‑threatening wounds.
A police statement said investigators believe all three victims are known to each other and that police are not searching for anyone else.
Acting Inspector Rebecca Hall, speaking at the scene, reported that a nearby primary school briefly went into lockdown while emergency services responded.
"My understanding is that the children were inside the school at the time and were prevented from coming to the street and so did not witness anything," Hall told reporters.
Police said detectives from the family violence unit have commenced an investigation into the incident.
