A Ryanair flight between London Stansted and Sofia made an emergency landing at Plovdiv Airport on Thursday after a bomb threat was reported. Plovdiv Airport CEO Krassimir Peshev said the plane had to divert from its scheduled route after the alert. Passengers were already on the tarmac when security teams began a thorough check for explosives on the aircraft. Once the procedures were completed, the flight captain will review the situation and decide whether to continue the journey to Sofia or hold at Plovdiv.
According to the BTA report, the precautionary checks involved both the aircraft itself and the surrounding area, with airport staff on high alert. The incident has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about aviation safety in the region. Ryanair officials have yet to confirm the outcome of the security checks or the final routing decision for the flight, but they stated their priority is passenger safety and compliance with international regulations. BTA continues to monitor the situation for updates.
