In brief

At the Serdica Gallery in Sofia, Bulgarian artist Valka Parusheva launched her exhibition “Layers,” presenting 26 textile pieces that blend pixel‑like micro‑threads into distant translucent colour fields. The show, running from November 3 to 21, aims to evoke the accumulation of emotional layers in consciousness. Parusheva, a seasoned textile artist, discusses her intent to convey warmth and aesthetic experience through minimalism and geometric complexity.

Valka Parusheva’s new exhibition “Layers” opened at Serdica Gallery in Sofia on 3 November and is open until 21 November, the Bulgarian industry news outlet BTA reports.

The exhibition features 26 textile‑based abstract works created over the past two years using a special fabric where each thread resembles a pixel at close range, while from a distance the threads merge into translucent colour fields. The pieces aim to illustrate how multiple layers of human consciousness and emotion shape perception.

Parusheva, who studied artistic textiles at the Dimitar Dobrovich School of Applied Arts in Sliven and has held seven solo shows, stated that she wants the exhibition to convey "a sense of warm human presence and offer a purely aesthetic experience." This view is quoted by BTA.

The artist balances minimalism with geometric complexity, combining materials, colours, and shapes to create a visual representation of layered thought. According to BTA, she received the UBA textile art award in 2026 and has earned accolades at several national exhibitions, including the Grass and Water National Exhibition and Dissonances National Exhibition.

Parusheva's works are held in the collections of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, galleries in Sliven, Yambol, and Ruse, and in private collections domestically and abroad, BTA notes.
