In brief

An Airbus A321 operated by Hungarian carrier Wizz Air unscheduledly landed in Vienna late on November 5 after an email containing a vague threat prompted the stop‑over. The incident, reported by the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung and confirmed by Xinhua, occurred while the plane was en route from Milan‑Malpensa to Warsaw. The event has been added to a growing list of at least 15 European flights that have received bomb‑style threats in recent days.

Late on November 5, an Airbus A321 operated by Hungarian airline Wizz Air diverted from its scheduled route from Milan-Malpensa to Warsaw and made an unscheduled landing at Vienna airport after receiving a threat via email, Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported and Xinhua confirmed.

The aircraft was sent to Vienna’s Schwechat Airport following a vague threat in an email that was not identified as a bomb threat but prompted the flight crew and air‑traffic control to err on the side of caution. No passenger or crew injuries were reported and the flight was delayed by approximately three hours before resuming its journey to Warsaw.

Earlier this week, the Airports Authority announced that at least 15 flights across Europe had received bomb‑style threats, including the Wizz Air flight. The authority said that the threats had ranged from vague to explicit and that authorities were investigating the source of each warning.

Security officials reaffirmed that no explosive device was found on the aircraft, and Vienna security forces checked the airplane for potential threats. The aircraft was cleared to re‑take flight after an extensive walk‑through by security personnel.

Wizz Air has not yet released a statement outlining its final procedures. The incident demonstrates the heightened security concerns for European air travel amid a series of recent threats.
